Ever since 1959, Ping has been producing top of the line golf clubs and other equipment for all types of players. The company was founded by a Norwegian named Karsten Solheim who moved to the United States to become a mechanical engineer. At one point, he lived in Seattlle, Washington and later moved to New York to work for General Electric. He also took up the hobby of playing golf on the side. Solheim combined his scientific intelligence with his passion for golf and invented the Ping putter.
Although this was one of his first golf club inventions, he was able to incorporate advanced technology. The putter was based on the idea of heel-toe balance as well as perimeter weighting. The name “Ping” was given to the company based on the sound that a putter would make when in contact with the ball. Over time, Ping introduced a number of developments and inventions. They also started making a collection of golf irons, golf wedges, and golf drivers. Karsten Solheim passed away in 2000 but he remains a legend in the world of golfing equipment and manufacturing. Ping Golf hybrid woods are some of the most popular collections in the market today. These include the Ping G10 hybrid, Ping Rhapsody hybrid and Ping Rapture V2 hybrid.
